Néstor García-Canclini

Regarded as one of the most important recognitions given to the scientific, artistic and intellectual community in Mexico, the National Prize for Arts and Sciences, was awarded in the category of history, social sciences and philosophy to prominent Argentine-born Mexican researcher Néstor García-Canclini—an intellectual with a long and important professional trajectory—in an official ceremony presided by the Secretary of Public Education of Mexico, Emilio Chuayffet. A philosopher, writer, anthropologist and cultural critic, Néstor García–Canclini currently teaches at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana de México (UAM). He has received other honors during his scientific career for his intellectual contributions and research, including the Olivetti Award, the Lya Kostakowsky Latin American Literary Essay Award, the Carlos Monsiváis Award, the Third Recognition to Humanities and Social Sciences of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and the Latin American Studies Association Award. The research by García-Canclini constitutes a cultural referent in Mexico and Latin America. Thus, many of his intellectual inquiries have been printed in nearly 40 books.
