Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa at MAMBO

MAMBO presents "Singing to the Plants. Performance 2001-2023", the first retrospective in Colombia of Guatemalan artist Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa (Guatemala City, 1978). Ramírez-Figueroa explores with humor through performance, video, and sculpture the displacement, cultural resistance, and traumas of war. His work has taken as its focal point the historical narrative of his native country, specifically the Guatemalan Civil War (1960-1996).
Eugenio Viola curated the exhibition that occupies the first two levels of the museum in a unique environmental installation that brings together works from 2001 to the present. Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa studied Fine Arts at Universidad de Emily Carr and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist's production has been exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Guggenheim, New York; Tate Modern, London and The Venice Biennale (2017).
The show at MAMBO joins a series of exhibitions that have focused on probing Ramírez-Figueroa's oneiric and performative style, in which a critical reflection of history can disrupt official historical narratives.
"Singing to the Plants. Performance 2001-2023" was co-organized by MAMBO and the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM). This exhibition will be on view until June 11 at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Bogota.
