Gathered last July 31st at the Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation – FUGA headquarters, the jury for the 3rd Visual Arts Biennial Prize (Natalia Gutiérrez, curator, editor, and professor at Universidad Nacional de Colombia; Carolina Ponce de León, curator, art critic, and cultural promoter; and Víctor Manuel Rodríguez, independent curator and consultant in cultural policy in Colombia and abroad) unanimously gave two acquisition prizes, each for $30,000,000, to Soporte, a sculptural intervention by Mario Opazo, and Con el diablo dentro, a video-installation and performance by Nadia Granados. Also, Karina Moreno won a Mention with he intervention De gran altura. The prize-winning works will now be part of the FUGA art collection. In their resolution, the jurors highlighted "the exemplary reflection each artist has developed about site-specific art, understood as a memory-laden symbolic space. Both Prize winners use memory as a political device in order to bring to light stories of the coloniality and patriarchal nature of national narratives". The 3rd Visual Arts Biennial Prize, 2014, a competition sponsored by the Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation, invited late- and mid-career artists in the national scene to submit site-specific projects conceived for FUGA's exhibition spaces and taking into account the site's architecture and memory. Of the 26 participants, 8 artist's were selected to compete for a $60,000,000 total pot and to exhibit their work in two consecutive shows: First show: William Bahos, Nadia Granados, David Lozano and Eduard Moreno, June 10th through July 15th. Second show: Ana Mejía, Bernardo Montoya, Ana Karina Moreno, and Mario Opazo, July 31st through September 5th.
