Museu Nacional D'Art de Catalunya Seeks Director

The Board of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) has opened a public competition seeking its new Director. Application deadline is October 30th. The new Director will replace María Teresa Ocaña, who has been at the helm of the institution for the past 5 years. The call is public and international, and is open to Art History specialists or individuals with certified experience in the management of high-level museum institutions. The candidates¿ professional profiles will be evaluated by a committee of experts, including Narcís Serra, MNAC's President; Miquel Roca, President of Amics del MNAC; María Bolaños, Director of the Museo Nacional Colegio de San Gregorio, in Valladolid; Miguel Zugaza, Director of the Museo del Prado; Bartomeu Marí, Director of MACBA; Josephine Matamoros, Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Ceret; Eduard Carbonell, former Director of MNAC (1994-2005); and Daniel Giralt-Miracle, art historian and critic. According to the MNAC statutes, the Director fulfills the following functions: ensuring the implementation of agreements between the Museum¿s governing bodies; heading the Museum¿s artistic, technical, and general direction; approving expenses and granting, approving and signing on contracts according to the assumptions in budgetary regulations; representing the Museum in judicial and extra-judicial spheres; supervising museological or museographic plans that require upgrades and permanent improvements in the Museum and its facilities, and executing them after their approval; organizing exhibitions of the Museum¿s collections; plan temporary exhibits and designate their curators; propose the acquisition of artistic assets; authorize the temporary travel of the Museum's cultural assets out of its facilities, without prejudice of all other legal requirements; and exercising any additional functions charged by the Board, the Delegated Commission, or the President.
