Mexico’s Museo de Arte Moderno turns 50

Mexico's Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) is turning fifty, having been established in 1964 as a space for the promotion of the artistic avant garde and the internationalization of Mexican artists. The MAM opened its doors as part of the program of cultural institutionalization initiated by the government of Adolfo López Mteos (1910-1969). This emblematic space holds more than three thousand artworks, mainly Twentieth Century Mexican paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and prints. As part of the anniversary celebration the MAM presents he exhibitions 50 años, 50 obras; Pedro Ramírez Vásquez, inédito y functional; and Carteles MAM 1964-2014. Te first of these exhibitions, 50 años, 50 obras, features works by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Orozco, Siqueiros, Gerardo Murillo, among others. Pedro Ramírez Vásquez, inédito y functional is a review of key moments in the career of the space's architect, with plans, sketches, period photographs, sculptures, studies for his monumental works, documents, video, models, objects, and accessories. Finally, Carteles MAM 1964-2014 presents 57 posters reflecting the MAM's thematic discourses through the years, as well as catalogs, postcards and other print materials.
