The Museo de Arte Moderno de Barranquilla - MAMB announced that since mid-April, it would no longer serve at Carrera 56 #74-22, its headquarters since 2004. The property belongs to Terpel, a company that for 18 years granted on loan the use of this space so that, from there, the MAMB could develop exhibitions and educational events.
Thanks to the support of the cultural authorities of the district of Barranquilla and the department of Atlántico, the museum will move temporarily to the old Coltabaco building, located at Carrera 50 # 40-11 next to the Fábrica de Cultura, while the process to complete the final headquarters in the complex of the Parque Cultural del Caribe progresses.
The 215 square meters of the second floor will be used for the Museo de Arte Modern collection. Work is currently underway to adapt this space to house the art collection and enable the museum to function appropriately, work that will be completed in the second half of the year.
The museum will continue developing its programming in a hybrid format (virtual and in-person), using its institutional social media and channels to transmit its educational activities and schedule traveling exhibitions in various spaces managed by cultural authorities, partners, and benefactors. To continue disseminating and promoting the artistic wealth of its collection.
"We are committed to the Museo de Arte Moderno de Barranquilla, and we want its collection to have a temporary space during the construction of its new headquarters. So that the people of Barranquilla and visitors continue to enjoy the exhibitions and events led by this important player in the cultural and artistic ecosystem of the city," said the Secretary of Culture and Heritage, Maria Teresa Fernandez Iglesias.
