The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR) will celebrate its 15th anniversary on July 1st, 2015. For the occasion, MAPR will organize an exhibition on the history of the building where the museum is located. This exhibition will include a publication and a project documenting the oral history of members of the community who connect with the building´s history. Last century, the MAPR building, located in the heart of San Mateo de Cangrejos (today Santurce), functioned as a branch of the San Juan Municipal Hospital. Of the 17 buildings that comprised the medical complex, the only one still standing if the old surgery hospital, which opened in 1909 and is now the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. The gala will be the occasion to celebrate the museum´s 15 years of activity and its evolution into an axis for transformation, conservation, and education in the arts of Puerto Rico.
