Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y Leon, MUSAC City of Leon

After a labor of three years and a 33-million Euros investment, the spectacular building that will be headquarters for the MUSAC is finally completed. Architects Emilio Muñón and Luís Moreno Mansilla incorporated flexibility and the potential to organize different events to their design for the space. The museum¿s main objective is to become a key factor in the development of contemporary art, nationally and internationally. As a Twenty-First Century museum, MUSAC must assume the responsibility of entering an experimental field, and its schedule includes shows, workshops, talks, artists¿ meetings, educational programs, and work with the public. The program starts in April with Emergencias, a group show comprised of works belonging to the MUSAC collection. The show takes its title from a piece by Alfredo Jaar, Emergencia, and attempts to provoke in the viewer a reflection about urgent social problems such as the destruction of the environment, war, and epidemics. This show will occupy the new museum¿s exhibition area and the works on exhibit will address issues relative to the environment, different kinds of discrimination and inequality, points of conflict, the individuals alienation, cultural differences, and new social structures in Africa. A book/catalog will be published parallel to the show, including images of the works exhibited, general information, and critical texts. For more information, visit: www.musac.org.es
