Mi vecino. El otro

The Third Contemporary Art Week – SACO can be visited through August 31st at the Huanchaca Cultural Park, in Antofagasta, on this occasion with the slogan Mi vecino. El otro ("My neighbor. The Other") and the participation of artists and curators not only from Chile, but also and for the first time from Peru and Bolivia. The SE VENDE Mobile Contemporary Art Platform collective, carrying forth the goals of the Contemporary Art Week – SACO, a project forged in the spirit of establishing a permanent space of reflection, critique, and dialog through the arts in a region marked by the nonexistence of institutions devoted to such ends, and in the world's copper mining capital, and with the desire to open up the space to international participants, proposes for this third edition the exploration of the frictions in the border zones that are, today, an area of research interest, precisely the point of direct contact with the other and spaces for the construction of notional identity based on differences with the neighbor. Mi vecino. El otro posits itself from the image of the neighbor cultivated and fueled by generation in the bordering countries (Bolivia, Peru, Chile), creating a de-naturalized figure of the other, one enveloped in prejudice-ridden beliefs and myth that are palpably reflected in everyday situations and cliché-patterned conversations that derive in discriminatory practices in the media, in legal proceedings, and in work relationships against a neighbor we may not even have seen; taking into account these postulates, the third edition of SACO proposes the establishment of a dialog freed from prejudices and predispositions, about the tri-lateral imaginary both historical and contemporary, prioritizing individuals over the states.
