From September 15 to January 26, 2020 the Museum of Latin American Art, in Long Beach, is presenting an anthological exhibition by Tomás Ochoa (Ecuador, b. 1969). Ochoa is an artist whose work challenges established historical narratives; to since 2016, Ochoa has lived and worked in Colombia and studied the legacy of colonialism through economic development and political events.
Antología Memento (Memento Anthology) presents sixteen large panels that depict Colombia’s landscape, architecture, and people. Ochoa rewrites Latin American history by highlighting the events that have literally shaped the jungles and buildings of the country. The works become an illustrated and updated timeline that joins Colombia’s present reality with its hidden past.
