The Republic of Chile commemorates the birth of artist Roberto Matta with the retrospective entitled Matta: Centennial 11-11-11. Inaugurated on November 11, 2011-one hundred years after the birth of the Chilean artist-the exhibition will remain open until January 15, 2012. Under the curatorship of Inés Ortega-Márquez, this grand retrospective is presented by the Centro Cultural Palacio de la Moneda. The goal of this exhibition is to pay tribute to one of the most prominent artists from Chile. It includes close to one hundred works between drawings, paintings, and sculptures that belong to 28 institutions from around the world. It is a chronological survey largely divided into two periods of Matta's life, but one that expands from the beginning of his artistic career to his last works--a survey that includes some of his most important pieces.
