Matta 1911-2011

the city of Valencia is presenting the retrospective exhibition entitled Matta 1911-2011 to celebrate the centenary of Roberto Matta's birth. Organized by the IVAM, Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, and the Sociedad Estatal de Acción Cultural, the exhibition presents 32 paintings -some of these large-format works- that include triptychs and polyptychs. The IVAM dedicates this exhibition to the artist, in recognition of his relevance as a member of the surrealist movement, his enormous influence in the development of Abstract Expressionism in the U.S. and, most importantly, for being a precursor of art, science, and nature relations, and of the role played by art in the integral development of human beings. The retrospective will remain open until May 1. An accompanying color catalog has been published to complement the exhibition.
