Mateo Lopez exhibits at Lima's Museum of Contemporary Art

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima and the Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia del Banco de la República de Colombia inaugurated "Pasado Futurista", an exhibition by Colombian artist Mateo López curated by María Wills and Julien Petit. The exhibition is composed of two projects, "Sí pero no" (Yes but no) and "Pasado Futurista" (Futuristic Past), which configure a space of experimentation that is aligned with the contemporary debate on the understanding of drawing as a key element in the creation of scenographic sites.
In ArtNexus issue No.82, Ivonne Pini highlighted the search in Mateo Lopez's work for expanding drawing into a habitable space: "His original education in architecture, dropped when he felt they imposed constraints he would rather break, still count when we note his interest in space, in the transit from bi- to three-dimensionality, projecting drawing as something tangible in the space he intervenes."
"Futuristic Past" invites to break the role of a contemplative spectator, and invites its visitors to interaction and movement. This exhibition can be visited until June 25, 2023, at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima.
