More Art More Impact

With the support of the prestigious New York-based Phillips auction house and the Galería La Cometa, the Fundación Juan Felipe Gómez Escobar has organized the auction titled More Art More Impact, which features works by internationally recognized Colombian and foreign artists. The event will take place on Thursday, August 27, at the Galería La Cometa, in Bogota, beginning at 7:30 pm. The works will be on display at the gallery three days before the auction, beginning on August 25. With the presence of auctioneer and director of contemporary art at Phillips, Augusto Uribe, the event will auction 60 works that represent the best of what contemporary Latin American art has to offer. International artists such as Wifredo Lam (Cuba), Graciela Sacco (Argentina), Regina Silveira (Brazil), Joaquín Torres (Uruguay) and Carlos Garaicoa (Cuba); as well as Colombian masters with outstanding international trajectories like Álvaro Barrios, Fernando Botero, Luis Caballero, Beatriz González and Miguel Ángel Rojas, among others, converge with young artists under a careful selection made by artist and curator Catherine Sanint. The Fundación Juan Felipe Gómez Escobar, under the direction of Catalina Escobar, began operations in February 2002 with the aim of improving the quality of life of children and adolescents living in poverty in the city of Cartagena. For its great achievements, this institution has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Medal of Grand Officer, Grade Silver Cross, awarded by Colombian President Santos, in 2011; it was named one of the 10 Top Colombian Leaders by Semana magazine, in 2013; CNN Heroes 2012 and only a few weeks ago, Catalina Escobar was named Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 by the World Economic Forum and the Schwab Foundation.
