Mario Opazo, Los Héroes Monument

Así se hacen las carreteras is the title of the show that Chilean artist Mario Opazo will present inside the Los Héroes monument, in Bogotá. It is a multimedia installation that includes the active presence of a pianist, where the sculpture and sound are the protagonists.

The artist, who resides in Colombia, will place objects, materials and sounds alluding to catastrophe and ruin. He uses the image of the collapse of a telegraph network as a metaphor of contemporary social failure, the image evokes both decay and post-war "restorations," a series of ancient poles, transmission cables, wires, and discarded, dilapidated everyday objects, as well as fabrics, bed sheets, flags, etc.

These elements are installed from the monument's entrance to the last level, so that Opazo's work will traverse the entire site and guide the audience in discovering the seductive presence of a piano in the space's depths.
