Marina Abramovic Community Center Obod Cetinje

Performance artist Marina Abramovic (Belgrade, 1946) will create a multimedia cultural center named after her in the historic city of Cetinje, in Montenegro. The construction of the installation was announced at a press conference offered by the US artist herself, in the context of the presentation of the biographical documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.

The Marina Abramovic Community Center Obod Cetinje (MACCOC) will be located in the old Yugoslav Obod refrigeration factory where, until the fall of communism, more than 4,000 used to work. 65 year old Abramovic, affirmed that, with the help of her international contacts, she wishes to help Cetinje and to create a favorable environment for the economic development of its surroundings.

Abramovic announced that she will organize "performance" courses every year in Cetinje and that she plans to spend a minimum of three months of the year in that city, which is the former monarchic capital of Montenegro.

The MACCOC will be designed by prominent Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and by Shohei Shigematsu, director of the New York Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), who will together reconceptualize the Obod old industrial building.
