The Board of Directors of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín has named María Mercedes González as the institution's new Director. González holds an M. A. in Media Studies from The New School for Social Research and is a specialist in Cultural Studies and a Political Scientist at Universidad Javeriana.
María Mercedes González worked as cultural and media attaché at the Embassy of Colombia in Argentina. There she was in charge of organizing and launching art exhibitions, literary gatherings, film cycles, concerts, academic debates, and also the establishment and consolidation of relationships between the Embassy and Argentine media. Between 2008 and 2010 she was an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and coordinated the Foreign Policy Mission, and initiative where a group of experts studied Colombia's foreign policy. In her capacity as an advisor she also coordinated the Foreign Relations Coordinating Group, which included important civil society leaders and was tasked with the promotion of Colombia's interests in the Asia-Pacific region.
One of her first assignments as Director will be the launching of Deseo y tormento, Luis Caballero 1968-1992, part of Banco de la República's traveling exhibition program, which will open on November 15th as t he Homenajes MAMM show for 2012.
