Marcos Ramírez-Erre

The exhibition entitled A Game of Deception, of Oil, Soccer and other Bets by Mexican artist Marcos Ramírez-Erre at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) will remain open to the public until July 13. The central theme of the exhibition is the exploitation of natural resources according to the critical gaze of Ramírez-Erre. Curated by Idurre Alonso and Edward Hayes, the exhibition contains highly charged sociopolitical elements that are expressed through a series of deceivingly simple sculptures, photographs and images that are actually very critical. According to Marcos Ramírez-Erre, sports and entertainment are the deception that the power structures use to distract the public from important issues. Thus, it is no accident that, besides being used in the name of the exhibition, soccer is also present in several of the works and in the presentation card that shows a manhole cover shaped in the form of a soccer ball with the following inscription in the center: Panem et circenses (bread and circuses).
