The Banco Central de Uruguay through its prestigious Figari Award, granted Uruguayan artist Marco Maggi (1957- ) the 17th edition of the Award, in recognition of Maggi's career in the field of the visual arts.
The jury was formed by Patricia Betancour, Ignacio Iturria, and Ángel Kalenberg.
"Maggi is the author of original, innovative, work that is also exceptionally rigorous. He is innovative in the use of industrial and prosaic materials; the size of his work, all of which are very small; the remarkable results he achieves with drypoint engraving technique; as well as his approaches for exhibiting his work. The significance of his work can be understood as a warning, relevant to today, about the risks of the uncritical consumption of information in globalized society." Jury of the 17th Figari Award.
The Figari Award was created by the board of directors of the Banco Central de Uruguay in 1995, by the initiative of sculptor and then president of the Museum, Ricardo Pascale.
