The Museum of Contemporary Art Monterrey (MARCO) inaugurates the exhibition Dialogues. Women Artists in the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection, an exhibition that highlights the role of women artists in the development of modern and contemporary art, through one of the most influential private collections on the international scene. Curated by Taiyana Pimentel and Sergio Fontanella, the exhibition offers a critical reinterpretation that questions and expands historical narratives of art, focusing on the work of artists who have been fundamental in the evolution of various disciplines.
With a total of 160 works by 71 artists from 23 countries, the exhibition offers a journey through mediums such as painting, photography, video, sculpture, drawing, and performance. Among the artists featured are figures like Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape, Gego, Marina Abramovic, Barbara Kruger, Regina José Galindo, Chantal Akerman, Ana María Maiolino, Ana Mendieta, Voluspa Jarpa, and Priscilla Monge. The curatorial approach highlights not only the conceptual depth and formal boldness of their works but also the geographic and cultural diversity of their contributions.
Furthermore, Dialogues reflects on the very construction of a collection as an intellectual and emotional process, one that collects historical tensions and critical positions, in an exercise of cultural heritage.
Dialogues is not only an opportunity to study the impact of these artists but also an invitation to question the dominant structures in the history of art and reconsider the narratives that have shaped contemporary art.
