Ecuadorian curator Manuela Moscoso has been designated to lead the second edition of the Bienal das Amazônias, scheduled for the second half of 2025. This event aims to integrate culture, sustainability, and social development, with the support of Nubank, Shell, and the Instituto Cultural Vale, through the Federal Law of Incentives for Culture. The biennial will take place in Belém, coinciding with COP 30, which is expected to attract around 100,000 participants from around the world.
Lívia Condurú, president of the Bienal das Amazônias, emphasized that Moscoso is a significant figure in the international art scene and has an important connection to the Amazon. "Her work not only promotes art but also fosters discussions on critical contemporary issues," she remarked.
Moscoso is currently the director of the Center for Research and Alliances in Art (CARA) in New York. Her experience includes notable curatorial roles at the Museo Tamayo in Mexico and the Liverpool Biennial in 2021. She is distinguished by her collaborative approach and commitment to diversity in contemporary art.
The Bienal das Amazônias aims to be a space that values and celebrates the cultural richness of the region while challenging the polarization of artistic practices. With Moscoso’s appointment, the second edition of the biennial is expected to offer new perspectives and experiences that invite reflection on the role of art in the current context.
