Manolo Valdés / Monumental Sculpture

Featuring seven sculptures in bronze, cor-ten steel, and aluminum, the exhibition Manolo Valdés / Monumental Sculpture will be on view at the New York Botanical Garden through May 26, 2013.

The show, organized by the New York Botanical Garden and Marlborough Gallery, presents sculptures created this year specifically for the Botanical garden.

Guiomar is embraced and crowned by some ferns, as is the elegant Galatea; meanwhile, Ivy's headdress suggest the almost-abstract motion of palm leaves as the wind blows. The leaves flutter and form the headdress for Arcadia and Fiore, while playful butterflies do the same for Butterflies. With its evocation of the Nasrid-dynasty monument, Alhambra is the artist's homage to Spain. This sculpture offers viewers the experience of being able to walk around its interior.
