The group show Media Manipulation in Contemporary Cuban Art was on exhibit at the Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales in Old Havana between December 23rd, 2014 and January 17th, 2015. It was the result of the Estudio 21 Curator's Fellowship given by the institution to critic and journalist Israel Castellanos León. The show focused on the instrumental, artistically questioning handling of mass media in Cuban visual arts between the 1980s and the present. This is why it has been integrated into the 6th Contemporary Cuban Art Salon, whose theme is "communication, information, and their circulation channels". The show comprised six nuclei, each corresponding to a specific mass medium: radio, movies, television, the Internet, printed press, and alternative media. It featured several generations of poets ad artists, and several different disciplines: drawing, printmaking, audiovisual installation, environment art, photography, objects, sculpture; oral, written, and gestural language… And more than eighty artworks by approximately eighty artists.
