On June 29, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá - MAMBO inaugurated the exhibition "Rosemberg Sandoval: Performer (1980-2023)", curated by Eugenio Viola and Juaniko Moreno. Over fifty works by performance artist Rosemberg Sandoval (Colombia, Cartago, 1959) are on display in this exhibition, which is the first anthology of his work to be shown at institutional level.
Rosemberg Sandoval is one of the pioneers of performance art in Colombia, his work is characterized by the assumption of the body under an emotional and almost brual charge, his work transcends the traditional spaces of art and reflects on a Colombian society marked by violence and inequality. Likewise, in Sandoval's work there is a level of confrontation with the spectator. As Marta Rodríguez points out in a review published in ArtNexus “In Sandoval’s work, there is frequently something mortifying, something that seems to cross the limits of the tolerable, as was the case with Viennese Actionism.”
"Rosemberg Sandoval: Performer (1980-2023)" includes video, photography, sculpture and performance, bringing together early works as well as his most recent productions. The exhibition will be on view through October 1, 2023, at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá.
