Malba inaugurates retrospective exhibition of Liliana Porter

The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba) presents Travesía, a retrospective exhibition by Argentine artist Liliana Porter. The exhibition brings together a broad selection of works spanning Porter’s career from the 1960s to the present, offering a deep reflection on her artistic evolution and the themes that have shaped her work.

The exhibition includes a series of pieces that explore key issues in her practice, such as representation, memory, the artist’s role in society, violence, climate change, and labor. Through a dialogue between works from different periods, the exhibition invites viewers to question the linearity of time and offers a critical approach to the social and political contexts that permeate her art.

Porter, who has been based in New York since 1964, began her career experimenting with new forms of printmaking and later expanded her practice to include performance and multimedia work. From her early productions in the collective The New York Graphic Workshop to her video and theater works, the artist has employed a wide range of media to address themes such as politics and memory. Among her most iconic works are Sombras (1969) and Gandhi I-IV (1968), which reflect her critique of the political situation in Latin America and her ironic take on the icons of global capitalism.

In addition to the graphic works, the exhibition features performative pieces and a special program that will take place in the exhibition hall. These theatrical and video productions expand Porter’s visual language, exploring performativity and space as central elements in her work.

The exhibition will be open to the public until October 13, 2025.
