Organized by the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), the exhibition entitled Latitudes: Maestros Latinoamericanos en la Colección FEMSA (Latitudes: Latin American Masters at the FEMSA Collection) consists of 41 works created with various techniques by artists from ten Latin American countries. It proposes a survey through several aesthetical languages, which was inspired by various European influences and each artist¿s cultural context and personal perspective. The exhibition will remain open to the public until May 16, 2010. Participating artists include, among others, Joaquín Torres-García, Leonora Carrington, Carlos Orozco-Romero, Rufino Tamayo, Angel Zárraga, Alfaro Siqueiros, José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Fernando Botero, Oswaldo Guayasamín, Frida Kahlo, César Paternosto, and Remedios Varo. The exhibition is divided into five thematic blocks: the influence of Cubism in Latin American painters; portraiture and landscape as testimony of identity; Latin American contributions to universal art; the incorporation of Surrealism into Latin American art; and abstraction and informalisms.
