The Fall of 2005 will see the launch of the Masters in art Criticism and Writing, where a select number of students will have the opportunity of learning this discipline in an environment devoted to the teaching of art. The program of study seeks to move away from the nationalistic tradition in favor of a multicultural approach, exploring a variety of cultures and their creative practices. The curriculum emphasizes art criticism¿s deep philosophical roots, exploring meaning, social function, and discourses. Thos curriculum was designed in order to create a philosophical and professional commitment to the visual arts through a body of work that includes courses in art theory, criticism, writing skills and elective courses. Candidates must complete 60 credits in two academic years, and a thesis. The program is headed by Thomas McEvilley and its faculty includes renowned personalities such as Arthur Danto, David Levi Strauss, Carter Ratcliff, David Carrier, and Laura Cottingham.
