Luisa Elena Betancourt was born in Caracas Venezuela in 1945. She graduated as Master of Fine Arts at the Washington State University in 1992; once she returned to Venezuela she settled at the city of Valencia, where she founded the Centro Multidisciplinario de Arte Contemporáneo (CEMAC) were she worked as director and teacher. Her artworks have been presented in solo shows since 1983, being Traces of Life, at Museo Lía Bermúdez, the most recent one; likewise, she has participated in numerous group shows both inside and outside Venezuela. Betancourt has imparted seminars and workshops on what is culturally called Postmodern Time and its relation with Visual Arts, on women and the power of her art, on multiculturalism and how it manifests in contemporary art; Betancourt has also offered multiple visually supported lectures focused on social studies and their relation to contemporary art. Luisa Elena has written many articles for the press in the city of Valencia and has been interviewed in the written, radio and TV media of Venezuela. Betancourt is the co-author of the Curricular Design for Technical Superior University Studies on Art (ISBN 980 328 725 7); she was one of the speakers at the Women¿s Caucus for Art congress in 1993; she received the commemorative pin for the 50th anniversary of the Fulbright Foundation, the Centennial Pin of Universidad del Zulia and received the Fulbright scholarship in 1990.
