"L'Honni aveuglant" by Roberto Matta, at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.

A five-canvas installation by Roberto Matta entitled L'Honni aveuglant (The Dazzling Outcast) will be on display for public enjoyment at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza until October 23, 2011. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Chilean artist¿s birth (1911-2002), the installation will be exhibited in the Context Exhibitions Room, and Windowed Balcony located on the first floor of the Museum. The installation will be presented in the same manner it was originally exhibited in 1966 at the Galerie Alexandre Lolas in Paris. L'Honni aveuglant was envisioned by Matta as an enclosed space. It was constructed as a polyptych that "wrapped" and "surrounded" viewers from all angles. Three of the paintings are arranged horizontally and use the exhibition floor as their base. The remaining two pieces are hung so they serve as the "ceiling" that encloses the upper part of the montage. With this configuration the artist was able to create another world of his own invention within the world we perceive. The world of Matta consists of a dazzling pictorial landscape that, through his technical approach, refers us to the protagonists his polyptych recreates.
