Leonora Carrington and Her Fantastic Characters

With the support of CONACULTA, through the Centro Nacional de lasArtes, the exhibition entitled Leonora Carrington and her Fantastic Characters is on display at the Biblioteca de las Artes de México. The exhibition consists of works from the collection of the Fundición Artística Velasco.

The exhibition includes 29 sculptures; 25 medium size, 3 miniature created in silver, and one monumental sculpture in bronze that measures 3 meters high. They were designed under the supervision of the British born painter and sculptor.

Fantastic characters like Jaguar en la Noche (Jaguar in the Night), La Dragoneza (The Dragoness), Máscara Carnívora (Carnivorous Mask), Cantante Muda (Mute Singer), Elefanta (Female Elephant), Inventora de Atole ( Inventor of the Atole), Gato de la Noche (Cat of the Night), Camaleón (Chameleon), and Libelulix can be observed at the Biblioteca de las Artes de México until May 19 of 2013.

In addition to the exhibition, and to mark the anniversary of the artist's death, a project is under development for the month of May that consists of 14 monumental—3 meters high each— sculptural pieces.
