León Ferrari

From March 30 to June 4 of 2011, the Museo de Arte Banco de la República will present a retrospective exhibition of the work by Argentine artist León Ferrari. Including a selection of his most important works, from 1954 to the present, the exhibition will be divided into several thematic axes: Art and Power, Diaries, Prisms and Rectangles, Brazil, The Word, Eve and Music. Curated by the Fundación Augusto y León Ferrari, the retrospective consists of 180 works by Ferrari that capture and propose a reflection on the sociopolitical situation in Argentina during the 1980s. The selection of works include poetic manuscripts, the renowned piece La Civilización Occidental y Cristiana (Western and Christian Civilization, 1965), the series L'Osservatore Romano (The Roman Observer) that denounces the ridicule, persecution, and punishment that, according to the artist, is used by the Church to intimidate sinners; a work about the Iraq war, and several pieces that address the "Never Again" report on government tortures during the military dictatorship in Argentina.
