Leo Matiz, Microcosm of a Victory

The Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA), through the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and in collaboration with the Fundación Leo Matiz, presents the photographic exhibition entitled Microcosm of a Victory at the Museo Nacional de Arte in Mexico (MUNAL). The exhibition will remain open until September 23 of this year.

Thirty-three (33) images by Colombian artist Leo Matiz depict the liberation of Paris from the German occupation on August 25 of 1944.

It is a visual allegory that allows for the artistic exploration of beauty in geometry that, at the same time, coincided with the fireworks celebrations for the end of the Nazi invasion of this city in 1944.

The resulting images, included in Microcosm of a Victory, represent a legacy of geometrical figures conceived in a French capital that would share the signs of victory through visual signals that festively exploded in the air. The record of these fireworks represents a departure from figuration and an inquiry into the world of abstract compositions created by Matiz.

The selection of the images was entrusted to Alejandra Matiz, the artist's daughter, and to the curatorship headed by Liliana Sepúlveda and Adriana López.
