Leandro Katz's installations Lunar Alphabet II and Lunar Sentence II (1978-79) will be shown until February of 2012 at the Edward Steichen Photography Galleries, as part of a selection of recently acquired works that have been added to the MoMA's permanent collection. Katz's works include long-term projects that incorporate historical, anthropological, and visual arts research that deal with Latin American themes. These include: The Catherwood Project, a photographic reconstruction of the two expeditions in1850 of John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood to Mayan areas of Central America and Mexico; Project For The Day You¿ll Love Me, which investigates the events surrounding the capture and execution of Ernesto "Che" Guevara in Bolivia in 1967; Paradox, which addresses Central American archeology and the banana plantations in the Maya region; and Vortex, which addresses the social and literary history of the rubber industry in the Amazon region of the Putumayo River, based on the accounts by Roger Casement. His most recent books, Natural History and The Ghosts of Ñancahuazú, were published in 2010.
