The exhibition, known as "La Trienal de Tijuana: I. In coordination with the entire center team, they have committed to this project throughout the last three years. This competition called for the participation of 575 proposals from 23 countries, of which the head curator of the Triennial, Carmen Hernández, chose 145; the Curatorial Committee was also made up of art critic Roberto Rosique and muralist Álvaro Blancarte.
The Triennial proposes a prize of one million Mexican pesos for the winning proposal and 250,000 Mexican pesos for two honorable mentions. For this purpose, a web page was created: https://trienalvotacion.mx, where the public from anywhere in the world can vote for the work of their choice. Voting is open until 24:00 (Mexico) on October 19, to announce on October 20 the chosen proposal, by three main votes cast by artists, the public, and designated curator Nelson Herrera Ysla, who participates from Havana, Cuba.
About the contest, Nelson Herrera Ysla, jury together with the public and participating artists of the Triennial, spoke on screen from Havana, Cuba, "this is a very important event for Latin America, with which we have the opportunity to reflect on painting, which today remains and will remain one of the most important manifestations of Latin American, European and universal art, a vital expression in the history of our continent and the history of our society."
