Through January 26th, 2016, the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection is presenting at The Americas Society and Hunter College, in New York City, a simultaneous exhibition titled Boundless Reality: Traveler Artist's Landscapes from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection. The exhibition centers on the work of Latin American traveler artists from the Nineteenth Century. Auguste Morisot's 1886 expedition up the Orinoco River serves as the centerpiece of the Americas Society component of the exhibition, which includes photography, drawings, and engravings. The Morisot archive is an example of the irruption of photography in the Nineteenth Century, and its relationship with the conventions of Painting and the representation of "exotic" landscapes. Harper Montgomery, Hunter College's Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, a professor in Latin American art, along with Hunter College MA and MFA students, curated the exhibition. Boundless Reality: Traveler Artist's Landscapes from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection is a collaboration between Hunter College, The Americas Society, and the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection. The Fall 2015 Visual Arts Program is supported by Raquel and Jaime Gilinski, and, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. PHILLIPS is the Lead Sponsor of Americas Society's Visual Arts Program.
