The Iberoamericana: Highlights Women and their Artistic Creations

The contemporary art exhibition "La Iberoamericana" is an innovative cultural bet of the City Council of Toro, Spain, which aims to recognize the role of women as a fundamental part of artistic creation to promote equity.
The exhibition will be on view until September 15 in six different venues, four churches, the Municipal House of Culture, and the Latorre Theater, exhibiting more than 150 works by around thirty women.
The mayor, Tomás del Bien, and the curator of the exhibition, Manuel Víctor del Campo, presented the initiative promoted by the City Council and the Cabinet of the Society of Friends of the Arts, in which the Latin American women of the XXI century are the main characters. It aims to combine Toro's historical heritage and contemporary art through a "dialogue" in which the common thread is the works contributed by the artists.
Another 16 renowned Spanish artists present their most iconic works in dialogue with works that mostly date from the twelfth and fifteenth centuries. The church of San Agustín presents the works of the artists: Delhy Tejero, Marina Vargas, Concha Mayordomo, Susana Guerrero, Natalia Pintado and Raquel Bonis. In the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the works of Marina Vargas, Mar Solís, and Marina Núñez are exhibited. In the church of San Sebastian, the works of Susana Guerrero, Ruth Olabarri, and Natalia Pindado. In San Lorenzo el Real, the works of Ruth Olabarri and Gloria García Lorca are presented.
Mexico is the guest country of this first edition of the exhibition, with 12 artists presenting current works in Toro in media such as video art, photography, artists' books, installations, and paintings. The Municipal House of Culture which, until September 15, houses the pavilion dedicated to Mexico, in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy and the Cultural Institute of Mexico in Spain. In the two halls set up for the exhibition, artists such as Susana Casarín, whose work "Realidades y Deseos" (Realities and Desires) highlights the discrimination suffered by transgender people in marginalized areas of Mexico. Ximena Pérez Grobet exhibits her books and Flavia Tóroto Taulis presents her pictorial series "Sinópticos". Also on view: "Cuerpo, dolor y sombras" (Body, Pain, and Shadows), a series of video performances by the artists María Eugenia Chellet, Sarah Minter, Ximena Cuevas, Grace Quintanilla, Inmaculada Abarca, Lysette Yoselevitz and Mónica Dower. The works belong to the collection of the Museo La Neomudéjar and the curatorship is by Mónica Sotos.
During the Closing Ceremony, the guest country for the second edition in 2022 will be announced. It will be accompanied by the award ceremony of the Woman of the Year in the Arts Award granted by a jury of international prestige. An award will also be presented to the most outstanding artist of the festival, chosen by the public vote of the visitors.
