Ronald M. Berkman, Executive President & Provost announce that Dr. Carol Damian, Professor in the Department of Art and Art History, has accepted to serve as Interim Director of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, effective April 28, 2008. She has been Curator of the museum's permanent collection since 2006. Dr. Damian will be responsible for the incredibly complex task of opening a new museum. The new home for the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum is slated to open in November 2008. This spectacular 46,000-square-foot building designed by internationally recognized architect Yann Weymouth of Hellmuth Obata + Kassabaum (HOK) and located on the University Park campus will become a cultural resource for the FIU campus and South Florida and a catalyst for all of the arts to flourish at FIU in the years to come. As Interim Director, one of Dr. Damian's primary objectives will be to increase student and faculty involvement and the museum's interaction with other university departments. Dr. Damian has proven to be a dynamic leader who combines scholarly experience, leadership skills, and a passion for the arts with the personal skills to build strong ties with the university and South Florida communities.
