Dedicated to the support of public Works, "La Caixa" is looking to hire curators who offer a fresh new look at its contemporary art collection. A new financial support program, Comisart, allocates a year amount of 18,000 euros for the development of three curatorial projects, each with a purse of 6,000 euros. The deadline to enter all applications has been extended to March 8 of 2013.
Comisart offers curators the opportunity to work with first class artworks from the Colección de Arte Contemporáneo Fundación "La Caixa," and to develop an exhibition project under professional conditions that involve collaborating with experts in the field and relying in the resources offered by the foundation.
This new program is aimed at foreign and Spanish curators under the age of 40 who legally reside in Spain and who have previously curated a minimum of three exhibitions. The call will reject applications from curators who already have an established professional trajectory.
Comisart supports a program presented with Biennial-like regularity in which three exhibition projects based on the works included in the collection will be organized. The goal is to present curatorial projects that are innovative for its readings and reflections as well as for being vehicles for creative proposals.
The exhibitions will be included in the yearly program of CaixaForum Barcelona and there is also the possibility of taking the exhibitions to other venues and perhaps to collaborate with other institutions. A selective number of young artists in the early stages of their professional careers will have the opportunity to showcase their works internationally, as these may complement the works from the collection, as long as they are works already finished that do not belong to another institution.
Each of the three curators selected will receive a purse of 6,000.00 euros and he/she will be able to use the resources and expert advice from the exhibition team at "La Caixa." The development of each project may not exceed 4 month. During the first month, curators will have access to the collection and to the advice of the La Caixa team in order to define the project. The three remaining months will be spent doing all the preparation work for the exhibition.
