La Balsa Arte

After three years of activities in the Torres del Parque in downtown Bogota, the La Balsa Arte gallery now inaugurates its new space in the city of Medellin with the goal of actively contributing to the cultural dynamic of the city. Under the directorship of Ana Patricia Gómez, the entity will continue focusing on the promotion of emerging and mid-career artists whose work is based on continuous research processes centered on a variety of themes that are relevant in contemporary society. Artists from around the world have been invited to participate in the project and to develop relationships with their Colombian counterparts with an aim to broaden the conversation and stimulating exchanges in exhibition spaces, residencies, and art fairs. La Balsa Arte opened its doors in Medellin on October 12 with the inauguration of the exhibition titled "Chiapas: Zapatista Insurrection in Mexico," photographs by Mat Jacob under the curatorship of Mónica Santos. The exhibition presents images taken during twenty years of the history of the indigenous movement defined by its quest to legitimize an autochthonous social model. The new space is located at Calle 10 # 40–37, Medellin, Colombia.
