On April 25 in New York City, Cartagenan artist Ruby Rumié was awarded the Women Together Award granted by the United Nations (UN) for, according to the UN, "the artistic, anthropologic, and social work that she has developed during her career, focusing on the research and analysis of the impact of aesthetics and poetry during her relentless search for gender equality." The awards recognize the work of men and women who promote aesthetic, philosophical, scientific, economic, cultural, and moral values that set an example for the generations to come. Women Together is a non-profit international organization formed by a multidisciplinary team with advisory status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and also at the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI). For more than sixteen years, Ruby Rumié has promoted activities associated with the arts, hands crafts, and fashion, with the objective of eradicating poverty, empowering women and honoring the cultural heritage of disadvantaged communities. People from around the world gathered to celebrate the Women Together Awards and to participate in the gala dinner that took place in New York City, in recognition of the work of women, men, and institutions dedicated to creating a more equalitarian society.
