Colombian artist Delcy Morelos exhibits at Dia Art Foundation

The exhibition "Delcy Morelos: The Embrace" will be open to the public until July at Dia Chelsea, New York.
For more than ten years Delcy Morelos has worked with earth, creating environments of abstract geometric forms. The artist explores clay and collects it in different places, recognizing formal characteristics such as soil, texture, and organic properties, among others. Based on the ancestral cosmologies of Andean and Amazonian cultures, as well as her own, the work investigates the power of mud as a resource for life and, at the same time, for sustenance.
Two multisensorial installations are presented in this exhibition: Cielo terrenal (Earthly Heaven, 2023) and El abrazo (The Embrace, 2023), which gives the title to the exhibition. In this piece, surface and volume converge in a monochromatic "construction" due to the accumulation of material. This leads to an olfactory experience, as the artist adds straw and coconut fibers. In addition, the viewer is invited to touch the surface of the artwork as a gesture of encounter.
Dia presents "Soleil Sessions" a series of interdisciplinary activations, reflections, poetic responses and discussions about the earth as subject and material of the work. These events are public and occur at different times of the month to invite to see the commission from different points of view. In addition to the above, the show is accompanied by the first bilingual publication dedicated exclusively to the work that has earth as its central theme; edited by Kamilah N. Foreman, Alexis Lowry and Zuna Maza.
