Keyna Eleison and Paulo Lafuente New Artistic Directors

The executive director of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, Fabio Szwarcwald, announced on Tuesday August 18, 2020, the appointment of the new Artistic Direction of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. Curator and researcher from Rio de Janeiro, Keyna Eleison and Spanish art critic and curator Pablo Lafuente assume the Artistic Direction of the museum, as a result of the so-called South American international, launched in May. The joint board will be responsible for managing the museum's collections, curating visual arts, in addition to initiatives and events in the areas of education, cinema, collection and conservation, documentation and research. They will also be involved with the resumption of the School Block and the partnership with Residência Capacete.
Eleison and Lafuente's proposal presented to the museum is focused on building a plural and organic vision of art, echoing the diversity of Rio and Brazilian society, in addition to reconnecting the museum with its physical, digital and symbolic exterior.
“I have an affective relationship with MAM Rio and it is affection that our artistic direction is about. Pablo and I are together to think and develop a living museum, located and networked. Establish a practical and intellectual dialogue with knowledge and world views, and occupy internal and external spaces in many ways. Being in the MAM Artistic Direction puts in my trajectory and in the collective dimension of achievements. Now, we have a lot of work ahead of us,” says Keyna.
MAM Rio received a total of 103 applications, from 116 participants, from 12 countries, including projects signed by pairs and collectives. In total, 66 women and 50 men participated.
