Kazimir Malevich in Argentina

For the first time in Latin America, and in partnership with the State Russian Museum, the Fundación Proa presents the first retrospective exhibition of the work by Kazimir Malevich (1878-1935). Curated by Eugenia Petrova, the exhibition will remain open until November of 2016. The curatorial proposal offers a creative survey of Malevich's work, concentrated on the various aspects present in the artistic life of this Russian artist. In this manner, the show expands from the early period of his work, reflecting symbolist and impressionist influences, to the late portraits and landscapes in which he describes country life through singular geometric characters. Suprematism, the central element in the exhibition, is represented through vast documentation on the emergence and context of that movement, including important abstract pieces (squares, crosses, and black circles) and lesser known works from his later suprematist iconography (athletes, red cavalry, etc.). The exhibition also includes his architektons and porcelains, which are essential for understanding the revolutionary project of fusing art and life proposed by Malevich and the Russian Avant-Garde. Titled "Kazimir Malevich, Retrospective," the exhibition is accompanied by exhaustive documentary material researched by professor Joseph Kiblitsky, who also recreated for the first time the futurist opera "Victory Over the Sun," created in 1913 by Vladimir Mayakovsky, Aleksei Kruchenykh, and Malevich, with the design of twenty dresses that Malevich created for the work. The video of the opera will be presented at the auditorium of the foundation. With this exhibition, the Fundación Proa begins the celebration of its twenty years of existence and continues with its program to showcase the great masters of modern and contemporary art.
