Kathy Halbreich, currently Director of the The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, where she has worked for 16 years, has been appointed as MoMA¿s Associate Director. Graduated from Bennington College in Literatura and Visual Arts, she will have the challenge of creating a great link between MoMA and contemporary art through the acquisition of pieces for the collection and the presentation of new exhibits. MoMA¿s staff will continue to be guided by its Director Glenn Lowry, who declares herself an admirer of Halbreich and her work, -not only at The Walker Art Center, where she directed exhibits of great artists such as Joseph Beuys, Chuck Close, Kiki Smith, and Kara Walter-, but also as curator of the Contemporary Art Department at Boston Fine Arts Museum and as Director of the Albert and Vera List Visual Arts Center from the Massachussets Institute of Technology. Halbreich¿s appointment as Associate Director will generate new expectations in relation to her work in the museum as a promoter and booster of contemporary art in the world.
