The Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo has just appointed Julieta González as head curator and acting director of the Museo Jumex. Having just recently been appointed associate curator of modern and contemporary art at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), for the last three years Julieta González held the position of head curator at the Museo Rufino Tamayo, in Mexico City, served as associate curator at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, in New York City, and from 2009 to 2012 was associate curator of Latin-American art at Tate Modern in London. González has organized more than forty exhibitions including: Juan Downey: A Communcation Utopia, Stephen Willats: Man from the 21st Century and Jac Leirner: Functions of a Variable at the Museo Tamayo; Ways of Working: The Incidental Object at Fondazione Merz, Turin; Ethnography: A User's Guide and a Cindy Sherman retrospective at the Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas. She was co-curator of the 2nd San Juan Poly/Graphic Triennial and associate curator of Farsites at Insite San Diego/Tijuana 2005, an exhibition organized by Adriano Pedrosa. She completed an MA in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths' Centre for Cultural Studies of the University of London and was an Helena Rubinstein Curatorial Fellow of the Whitney Independent Study Program, in New York City (1997–1998). González studied Architecture at the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas and at the École d'Architecture Paris-Villemin, in Paris. Speaking about the appointment the president of the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, Eugenio López-Alonso, said that Julieta González is one of the curators with more knowledge and a better understanding of the contemporary art scene and Latin-American art; two subjects of great importance for the international artistic dialogue. In welcoming Julieta González to the Museo Jumex, López-Alonso expressed his gratitude to director Patrick Charpenel, who decided to go back to his work as advisor and curator after three years of exceptional and essential contributions for the creation of this new institution.
