Colombian photographer Juan Fernando Herrán has been chosen by the partners of the Pictet Group for the fifth commission of the Prix Pictet. The commission will allow Herrán to develop a series of photographs that will examine material culture and consumerism in indigenous communities in Colombia. Herrán will address the relationship between consumer goods and our basic human needs. For this purpose, he will visit three indigenous communities on the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the Amazon and La Guajira desert where, according to Herrán, "the economic value of objects is not important." The photographs created for this project will be exhibited in London in 2015 and will be accompanied by a catalog. The development of this work is supported by the Geneva-based charity OneAction, an organization with a distinguished track record in the production of sustainability projects in Latin America.
