The retrospective exhibition of Colombian artist Juan Fernando Herrán, “Materialidades y constelaciones” (Materialities and Constellations) will open to the public on Wednesday, March 12. His work has been exhibited in venues such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Station Museum of Contemporary Art in Houston, and the Palacio de Velásquez of the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, among others.
The exhibition was curated by María Margarita Malagón and presents a look at the work of Herrán from the 1980s to the present. The exhibition will include 49 works, 5 of which belong to the Colección de Arte del Banco de la República. Herrán's work explores themes related to memory, identity and social transformation in Colombia through different media and formats as sculpture, installation, video and photography. During the show, lectures, guided tours and workshops will be held at both institutions. In addition, the Héroes Mil installation that was presented at the 2015 Premio Luis Caballero will be located at Parque Berrio. This large-format piece reflects on the narratives of power and the logic behind monuments by challenging the relevancy of heroes as shapers of history.
The exhibition will be open until June 15, 2025 in Medellín and will then move to the Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia (MAMU) in Bogotá where it will be on view between September 2025 and March 2026.
