After Carmen Cuenca's resignation as Director of Museo Tamayo, Mexico's National Fine Arts Institute announces the appointment of Colombian curator Juan Andrés Gaitán to the position. The Institute publicly acknowledged Carmen Cuenca's efforts at the helm of the museum since 2011, a period that saw the physical expansion of the facilities and their reopening the following year. Juan A. Gaitán, who will take over as Director, studied Fine Arts at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, Canada and a holds a postgraduate degree from the University of British Columbia. Between 2006 and 2008, he was an adjunct curator at the latter institution's Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery. As an independent curator, Gaitán has developed exhibitions and research on contemporary art. His experience in the field includes collaborations with such institutions as the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco, the Kadist Art Foundation and the Hordaland Kuntssenter in Bergen, Norway. Gaitán has taught at the University of British Columbia; the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, in Spain; Universidad de los Andes, in Bogotá, Colombia; and the Internationale Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst, in Salzburg, Austria. In 2014, he was the Artistic Director for the 8th Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art.
