Josué Castro will be in residence at The Studios at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, and upon his return, he will exhibit his work at ÍNTIMO, the project space of La Nueva Fábrica, in Antigua Guatemala.
During his residency at MASS MoCA, Josué will develop a scenic creation that "originates from everyday circumstances and moments, permeated by systematic and structural violence in the process of masculinity." Its main axis addresses "the figure of the Devil as a subject of study from the historical, ethical/philosophical and social, thus generating how to express the conflict of man with the fullness of being and disaster (...), catalyzing "a device of questioning, habitat, reflection and rethinking, from our work, towards living and immediate circumstances that manifest, embody and emerge in us, in an intrapersonal way from the Guatemalan context as a gay man with Mayan roots k ́íche."
Josué Castro was one of the participating artists in the XXIII Bienal de Arte Paíz, whose performance "La niña del volcán" kicked off the biennial last July.
La Nueva Fábrica is a non-profit institution that presents exhibitions and develops public and educational programs, residencies, and multidisciplinary workshops through partnerships with international institutions.
