Jorge MarínWings of the City

Wings of the City by sculptor Jorge Marín is an exhibition that consists of nine monumental sculptures that have already been successfully presented in several cities across Mexico like: Torreón, Campeche, Tampico, Ciudad Victoria Mexico City. The exhibition in the city of Brownsville, Texas will be the first of several exhibitions across the US. Brownsville has a population of 175,023 inhabitants and neighbors with Tamaulipas, the Mexican state that last presented Wings of the City. This step across the neighboring US city is very important not solely for Marín's artistic trajectory but also for all Mexicans, as it represents an example of the artistic production created in Mexico and opens the door for other Mexican artists to participate in similar exhibitions in the near future. According to Marín, "It is important to demonstrate to our neighbors from the north the art that Mexico has been developing, our millenary artistic legacy, our rich culture based on the past but also on the present and, most importantly, on the future…" Today the exhibition, and particularly the piece that inspired its title, Wings of Mexico, has by far surpassed all expectations in connection to the number of visitors it has attracted and the visual and social impact it has generated among a very culturally diverse viewership. Wings of Mexico represents the possibility of flying with body and soul; with desire, will and perseverance. The exhibition can be seen at Linear Park in Brownsville from December 5 of 2013 through June of 2014. Throughout his career, Jorge Marín (Uruapan, Michoacán, 1963) has demonstrated a multi-faceted artistic endeavor that has allowed him to approach several disciplines and work with diverse materials like ceramic and resin. He has explored several sculptural dimensions, from miniature to monumental scale works, and has exhibited his pieces in Mexico and abroad by taking over the public space as generating a never-before-experienced dialogue between work, art, and viewers.
